Put on your walking shoes and follow a path that is far from your daily route and routine. This gives you a different view of things. That idea is the basis of a multi-day walking trail that we are designing near Sint-Truiden and Borgloon. You walk in beautiful nature, past heritage and art. Support our pilgrimage path and walk in the footsteps of Saint Christina Mirabilis, who still walks the earth after 800 years.
A story from Haspengouw
Christina Mirabilis, also called Christina the Wonderful, was a remarkable woman from Haspengouw. Her life story reads like a novel: she was orphaned as a child, experienced her faith in God and died very young. She was given another chance to live, if she was willing to suffer. She chose life. Pain and suffering became her share, but she managed to find strength in it and connect with others, despite her self-chosen loneliness.
A global story
Centuries later, her story still inspires people all over the world. People who suffer psychologically. But also anyone who deals with people and their mental problems with care. And not to forget: thousands of artists, including Nick Cave who wrote a song about her. Numerous students and researchers all over the world also tell and interpret her story.
A story of all of us
Pilgrims have been making journeys to their holy places for centuries. Today we may also be searching for what is sacred to us. That is why we are now making the Via Christina Mirabilis, an opportunity to go on a pilgrimage yourself. To say 'stop' to the fast-turning world. However, you can just as easily follow the path to make it a one-day or multi-day hike. In any case, you will be accompanied by a beautifully published guide that provides background and explanation of Christina Mirabilis, the heritage and art that you encounter, with poetic references and room for your own notes.
What do we use your contribution for?
With your contributions, we can:
plan the route of the path and signpost it
pay the writers, photographers and all artistic makers for their contribution to a printed guide
have the guide designed by a graphic artist and printed
getting the path and guide to the right people through targeted communication
On behalf of all the people who support this project: thank you in advance for your contribution
